“Milk-white clouds pillow in an agate sky. Buds swell tightly against slender branches, and soft, mousy catkin beg to be patter by children on their way to school. Fresh rain breaks over the greening Earth, scattering the petals of cherry blossoms like confetti at a birthday party, and there’s a brave new slant to the sunlight coming through the kitchen window at daybreak.”

March was fun. More deadlines for my course, my husband began his new work placement, and we tried to make some big decisions around our long-term plans for the next year or so. We got back into the garden, I tried Bouldering, and the deadlines have begun to bear down upon me. However, it was also a much better month than February.
Reflections on the Journey
i. Read 12 books: 1/12 – I finished The Vagrant. It was a long, hard read for me; both in it’s tone and style of writing, and the setting and topics covered, but I’ve ended up with the sequel on my TBR pile. I’ve returned to Rachel Aaron’s Eli series, picking up the second book after 4 years on the shelf following the book getting soaked after a water bottle leak!
ii. Edit second novel for submission: 1/1 – I sent off a novel draft to a beta-reader to help me problem-solve some large-scale issues with the main character.
iii. Track my wordcount and aim for 100,000 words: 11,534/100,000 words – I wrote more this month than the last, which is always a nice feeling. I can catch-up with this goal once my final piece of coursework is done in June, and with the increased reading, I’m okay with where I currently am for my writing.
iv. Build upon my wellness routine: H and I didn’t have any specific plans this month, but I walked him to his night and weekend shifts a few times, and I tried Bouldering a couple of times (climbing an indoor wall).
We spent an afternoon making a little pond area out of a plastic tub, I helped him sand some of the wood for his workbench and we went for a few walks. We also turned the patch of soil by the back door into a sizeable vegetable patch, complete with stepping stones. Across this month, I actually walked an extra 10.6km above my usual routine.
v. Take Photographs: The weather brought some beautiful days, which gave me a few opportunities to take some landscape and close-up DSLR photos.
March’s Experience Collected
Total XP for March: 1,000/1,250
Total XP towards Level Up: 1,350/7,500
Jumping the Wall…
- I met another two uni deadlines, and passed my latest competency.
- I went bouldering twice: ending up with blistered hands and aching arms, but feeling accomplished each time.
- I switched back to working on another story following a chat with a friend about Skeletal’s current blocks.
- I finished a book it’s taken nearly two years to read!
- H and I had 5 days off to garden; creating a pond, vegetable patch and patio.
The Path Ahead…
- In April we are seeing family, working more on the garden and plodding through university and work assignments.
