Eleven days in.
On November 1st, I began writing the final book in the Planes series. It’s a book I’ve put off writing as I was editing book 1. However, it’s the easiest book to attempt for a speed-run, as I know the characters and world well, so can focus more on the plot itself.
Having said that, I didn’t have it planned out. I have edited book 1, but not book 2, so fact-checking for book 3 has taken up quite a bit of time.
But I did attend my first ever Write-In, complete with white hot chocolate! We didn’t get much written, but it was lovely to meet a few other local writers.
And then the world turned.
There are many well-worded posts about the US election and its aftermath. For me, it was just a really bad week already, and the general panic surrounding the internet following Tuesday on top was a bit much.
So I’m a few words behind target.
Aim for Day 11: 18,333
My Count on Day 11: 16,172
Currently Behind: 2,161
There’s something about seeing the real world fill itself with racism, misogyny, xenophobia and anger that just stops me wanting to write about my world where people are persecuted.
Much like I said in July, I can’t connect with that pain when the real-world emotions are so raw. So I’m focusing on scenes where I can show family support, knowing I’ll need to go back and fill in [scene of horror here] slots later.
NaNoWriMo is about hitting the word targets; and as long as I follow the rough plan for the story, I can choose to leave 30k of scenes a little bland for now.
